Alibaba Cloud Plans UAE Data Centre Expansion in Global AI Push

Alibaba Cloud has announced plans to expand its data centre presence in the UAE and other international locations over the next 12 months. The announcement was made during its 2026 Apsara Conference alongside the launch of three enterprise AI suites. The company aims to surpass 20 gigawatts of international data centre capacity by 2032.

Alibaba Cloud announced an international infrastructure and services expansion during its 2026 Apsara Conference to scale up global artificial intelligence capabilities. Over the next 12 months, the Chinese cloud provider plans to expand its data centre presence in the UAE alongside Hong Kong, Malaysia, Germany, and France.

The company also plans to establish new cloud regions in Turkey, Finland, and the Netherlands. The expansion forms part of Alibaba Cloud's broader target to surpass 20 gigawatts of international data centre capacity by 2032 to address increasing AI computing demand.

According to Telecompaper, Alibaba Cloud currently operates 107 availability zones across 31 global regions. Alongside the infrastructure rollout, the provider introduced three international enterprise AI suites—Smart Studio, Smart Fusion, and Smart Video—to facilitate corporate deployment of large models.

Alibaba Cloud also announced commercial collaborations involving its cloud and AI technologies with Panasonic Digital, Unity China, Lion Parcel, Loomi Entertainment Group, Shake, and AnyMind Group.

Asian markets are scheduled to import 23.96 million barrels of crude oil per day in September 2026, driven by Arabian Gulf supplies. China's foreign crude purchases reached 8.93 million barrels per day in August, a 6.2 percent increase month-on-month. Despite recovering maritime flows, total Asian crude imports remain 13 percent below pre-crisis baseline levels.
