According to a report by InsideEVs, a growing cohort of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers has begun reporting net positive earnings, marking an operational shift as Western automakers face substantial financial costs in their electrification transitions.
Stellantis-backed Leapmotor disclosed its first full-year net profit of $78 million for 2025, reversing a $410 million loss from the prior year. Nio recorded an adjusted net profit of $104 million in the fourth quarter, compared to a loss of approximately $1 billion during the same period in 2024. In addition, Xpeng posted a fourth-quarter net profit of approximately $55 million, swinging from a $190 million loss a year earlier.
These manufacturers join BYD, Li Auto, and Xiaomi in achieving positive financial results, expanding the list of Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) companies generating positive operational cash flow despite domestic price wars and the conclusion of state purchase subsidies.
Tu Le, founder of consultancy Sino Auto Insights, told InsideEVs that Chinese EV producers are rightsizing operations and utilizing competitive and operational data more effectively than foreign rivals. While Tesla remains profitable in the Western market, legacy automakers including Ford and General Motors have logged multi-billion-dollar charges as they adjust their EV production plans.
