The UAE Ministry of Finance has updated administrative penalties under the upcoming nationwide electronic invoicing regime through a new Cabinet Decision. An initial failure to comply now incurs a fine of AED 5,000, capped at AED 50,000 per 12-month period. The UAE Ministry of Finance has revised administrative penalties governing the upcoming nationwide electronic invoicing system through a new Cabinet Decision, Arabian Business reported.

Under the amended framework, an initial failure to comply triggers an administrative fine of AED 5,000, alongside an additional AED 5,000 fine for each subsequent month of non-compliance. Total non-compliance penalties are capped at AED 50,000 within any given 12-month period.

The updated provisions also abolish a penalty that previously sanctioned businesses for failing to notify the Federal Tax Authority of IT system failures. Additionally, the regulation introduces safeguards to prevent duplicate penalties if a business simultaneously acts as both an issuer and recipient in relation to the same violation.
