ADNOC Partners with OpenAI and G42 to Deploy Frontier AI in Energy Operations

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has entered into a multi-year partnership with OpenAI and Emirati AI company G42 to integrate artificial intelligence across its oil and gas operations. Announced at the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi, the agreement makes ADNOC the first energy company to deploy the OpenAI Frontier platform. At the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced a multi-year partnership with OpenAI and UAE artificial intelligence group G42. The agreement was signed in the presence of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Under the partnership, ADNOC reported it will become the world's first energy company to deploy OpenAI Frontier, an enterprise suite of advanced AI models. The system is designed to run on G42's sovereign digital infrastructure within the UAE, drawing on historical operational data covering thousands of wells, multiple stacked reservoirs, and hundreds of surface processing facilities.

According to company statements, the initial project focuses on field master planning, pulling subsurface, engineering, and financial data into a unified decision framework to reduce field planning schedules from months to hours. A secondary initiative involves interconnected AI agents that model crude oil supply, demand, pricing, and refining margins to determine asset valuations while resources remain underground, with human operators retaining oversight over consequential decisions.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted at the conference that energy supply represents a critical consideration for the continued growth of advanced AI, adding that artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the operational economics of the energy sector.
