China is mobilizing more than 1,000 mathematicians and specialized researchers to conduct advanced artificial intelligence research and develop related technologies, according to a report by Voice of the Emirates. The move is designed to enhance the country's position in global AI development and enable domestic technology to compete with leading American firms, notably OpenAI and Anthropic.

The participating researchers are focusing on core computational and mathematical domains, including algorithms, machine learning, and computational modeling. These disciplines serve as the foundational architecture for building AI systems capable of advanced data processing, analytical deduction, and complex problem-solving.

Voice of the Emirates reported that Beijing aims through this mobilization to narrow its technological gap with the United States and achieve greater technological independence. The initiative comes amid restrictions imposed by the United States that limit Chinese companies' access to advanced semiconductors and sensitive technologies.

The scientific mobilization coincides with an expansion among Chinese tech firms to build AI models and release applications competing with American products in operational efficiency, performance, and cost. The strategy emphasizes integrating academic research with industrial deployment, seeking to transform theoretical innovations into commercial applications for the digital economy, telecommunications, and industrial sectors.
