Traditional financial institutions are increasingly participating in the digital asset sector globally as investors, infrastructure providers, and liquidity sources, according to an analysis published by Gulf News.
In the UAE, the market discussion is shifting from top-line expansion and innovation milestones toward infrastructure standards, operational oversight, and investor protection. Industry commentary highlighted that core principles of traditional finance—including client asset segregation, transparent execution, documented compliance, and risk controls—remain baseline requirements regardless of the underlying asset class.
The licensing framework established by Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) was cited as instrumental in setting clear and enforceable standards for virtual asset service providers, creating conditions that enable serious institutional involvement.
The report added that virtual assets are increasingly integrating into the broader financial system, with stablecoins entering institutional finance, tokenised assets appearing in portfolios, and cross-border commerce increasingly settling in digital currencies.
