Nvidia Asks Data Center Partners to Limit Chinese Customer Exposure Below Fifty Percent

Nvidia has instructed its cloud computing partners to ensure at least 51% of their business comes from non-Chinese customers, according to media reports. The guidance reportedly applies to new contracts and was delivered verbally through regional sales channels rather than written directives. The move comes amid stricter US export regulations affecting Chinese access to advanced computing chips.

Nvidia has told its data center and cloud computing partners to limit their exposure to Chinese clients, according to a report by the Financial Times. The world's largest chipmaker reportedly instructed partners to ensure that at least 51% of their computing services are allocated to non-Chinese customers.

The guidance was communicated verbally through Nvidia's sales teams and regional offices rather than as formal written instructions, the report noted. The reported restrictions apply to future contracts and do not disrupt existing agreements, while Nvidia has not officially confirmed the measure.

The development poses new hurdles for Chinese artificial intelligence companies that rent overseas cloud infrastructure to access advanced processors without directly importing them under US export controls. A subsequent report by The Information noted that Nvidia's instructions were designed to encourage customer diversification rather than serve as a mandatory restriction.
