UAE Approves Accession to Singapore Convention on Mediated Settlements Under Federal Decree

The UAE has issued Federal Decree No. 85 of 2026 approving accession to the United Nations Singapore Convention on Mediation. The convention allows cross-border commercial mediated settlement agreements to be recognized and enforced directly by domestic courts. It enters into force six months after the accession instrument is deposited with the UN, subject to two reservations adopted by the UAE.

UAE Approves Accession to Singapore Convention on Mediated Cross-Border Settlements

The United Arab Emirates has issued Federal Decree No. 85 of 2026 approving its accession to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation. The framework will allow commercial cross-border mediated settlements to be directly enforced by domestic courts without starting fresh litigation. The convention will take effect six months after the deposit of the UAE's instrument of accession with the UN Secretary-General.

Sharjah Chamber Hosts China Businesswomen Forum to Advance Commercial Partnerships

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the Sharjah-China Businesswomen Forum on September 22, 2026, welcoming 15 Chinese women entrepreneurs. Organized alongside the General Women's Union and the UAE Embassy in Beijing, the forum focused on mutual market expansion and B2B networking. SCCI noted that China represents roughly 11% of the UAE's total non-oil trade.

Abu Dhabi Customs and QCC Sign Data Exchange and Quality Agreement

Abu Dhabi Customs and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council have signed an MoU to enhance trade facilitation and data sharing. The entities will exchange foreign trade and inspection data through digital platforms to accelerate port clearance. The initiative also covers joint advisory services and technical training for commercial businesses.
