Mistral AI Chief Executive Arthur Mensch stated at a conference in Abu Dhabi that the French artificial intelligence company's newly announced model performs better than Chinese AI models on certain metrics, including cybersecurity, according to Analytics Insight. Mensch argued that the results demonstrate that Europe can compete against both the United States and China in the artificial intelligence sector.
During his presentation, Mensch did not name the specific Chinese models evaluated and did not release comparative benchmark or testing details. He noted that Mistral's independent standing outside both the US and China could assist the company in winning commercial customers in regions such as the Gulf and Asia-Pacific.
Founded three years ago, Mistral faces competition from prominent US developers such as OpenAI and Anthropic, alongside low-cost alternatives developed by Chinese AI firms. To support its international growth, Mistral completed a €3 billion funding round at an estimated valuation of €21 billion in September 2026.
Chinese artificial intelligence developers have established global market share by releasing capable models at lower prices. In response, Mistral is broadening its commercial model by developing software tools and operational services designed to help enterprise customers deploy and manage AI systems locally.
