Global sovereign wealth funds invested US$14.2 billion (HK$110.76 billion) in mainland China and Hong Kong during the first nine months of the year, according to a CNBC report citing data from Singapore-based consultancy Global SWF. The volume represents a 190 percent increase compared to full-year investments in 2025, contrasting with a 54 percent year-on-year drop recorded across 2025.
Middle Eastern sovereign investors drove the rebound, making up nearly 70 percent of total sovereign inflows into Chinese assets. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund contributed US$6 billion, while the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority invested US$2.5 billion. Abu Dhabi's Mubadala and the Qatar Investment Authority deployed US$800 million and US$600 million, respectively.
Sovereign wealth allocations focused on competitive sectors such as artificial intelligence hardware, advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, and local consumer brands. Highlighting regional interest, Singapore's Temasek served as a cornerstone investor in optical-components maker Zhongji Innolight's HK$53.41 billion Hong Kong initial public offering in July, while the Qatar Investment Authority and Norway's sovereign wealth fund participated in Alibaba's US$10.2 billion share offering in August.
