Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, announced that UAE-based fintech company Ziina won the Dubai-it Award for Companies in the Field of Business, according to official statements.
Founded by siblings Faisal, Sarah, and Talal Toukan, who named the venture after their mother, Ziina began as a peer-to-peer payment app before expanding into an integrated financial services platform. The service allows merchants and small businesses to accept payments directly via smartphones without needing separate physical point-of-sale hardware.
According to figures released alongside the award announcement, Ziina's transaction volume has surpassed $1.5 billion. The platform currently serves approximately 500,000 users and supports more than 290,000 business owners, including small and medium-sized enterprises and home-based entrepreneurs.
Over the past four years, Ziina has introduced more than 13 products and features, achieving a 163% single-year increase in active businesses using the platform. The Dubai-it Award celebrates individuals, institutions, and companies that translate ambitious ideas into tangible, measurable achievements across the emirate.
