The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) registered 353 Asian companies alongside six national pavilions led by China, highlighting expanding supply-chain partnerships and capital investments in regional energy infrastructure.
In Abu Dhabi, the 1.5-gigawatt Abu Dhabi PV3 Al Ajban solar project is nearing grid connection. Spanning approximately 20 square kilometres, the project is being executed under an engineering, procurement, and construction contract by PowerChina's Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited. Wang Xinjin, project manager at PowerChina, stated the plant is expected to generate 4.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, serving about 160,000 households and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 2.4 million tonnes each year. Chinese-made photovoltaic installation robots were also deployed to automate module assembly.
In Dubai, Shanghai Electric Group participated in phases four and five of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Phase four combines 700 megawatts of concentrated solar power with 250 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity and thermal storage to offset 1.6 million tonnes of emissions annually. Phase five contributes 900 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity, cutting an estimated 1.18 million tonnes of emissions per year.
Beyond solar generation, PowerChina completed the UAE Wind Program in 2023, the country's first utility-scale wind power development, spanning islands, semi-desert, and mountainous terrain to supply over 23,000 households. In Abu Dhabi, PowerChina is also building a northern section of an integrated solar and battery storage facility featuring 2.1 gigawatts of direct-current photovoltaic capacity and a 7.75-gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system designed to cut 5.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually once operational.
