The China Electric Power Alliance is advancing the construction of the northern section of the RTC round-the-clock integrated solar and energy storage project in the Abu Dhabi desert, according to Seetao. The site covers approximately 90 square kilometers.
The contract, valued at roughly RMB 13.962 billion, covers design, procurement, and construction works spanning a 21-month timetable. The scope includes 2.1 gigawatts of direct-current photovoltaic capacity and 7.75 gigawatt-hours of battery energy storage systems.
The broader RTC project is jointly developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). The overarching plan calls for 5.2 gigawatts of solar power and 19 gigawatt-hours of energy storage to deliver 1 gigawatt of continuous clean power. Once operational, the northern section is projected to curb local carbon emissions by around 5.7 million tons annually.
To handle extreme summer temperatures and sandstorms, the energy storage setup uses liquid cooling temperature controls within high-protection containers, combined with digital twins, artificial intelligence power prediction, and virtual power plant scheduling. Equipment suppliers include Jinko Energy for photovoltaic modules and Sunac Power for liquid-cooled energy storage and inverter solutions.
