Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD's Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric hypercar set a world record by reaching 503.17 km/h on a secured stretch of the E11 highway in Abu Dhabi, according to DriveArabia.

The benchmark was officially recognized by the FIA, making the vehicle the first production car to exceed the 500 km/h milestone in a single-direction run. German racing driver Marc Basseng piloted the hypercar along Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Road in the Al Dhafra region.

The record initiative was coordinated with multiple Abu Dhabi government entities, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, Abu Dhabi Mobility, and the Department of Culture and Tourism.

According to the report, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme features four independent electric motors delivering more than 3,000 horsepower and is built on a 1,200-volt architecture.
