The UAE's national cybersecurity strategy sets a government-led framework to protect digital infrastructure, build skilled workforces, and coordinate incident response in support of national digital economy goals, according to an analysis published by OTS News. Under the framework, a national body oversees policy coordination, while individual sector regulators translate the overarching strategy into industry-specific rules.
The publication reports that direct regulatory duties primarily target government entities and operators of critical national infrastructure across energy, telecommunications, transport, and finance. These entities face strict baseline controls, mandatory incident reporting, and routine compliance assessments.
While typical private commercial businesses are not directly named in the central strategy, OTS News notes they are affected through three primary channels. Regulated sectors—such as banking, insurance, and healthcare—enforce direct rules on licensed firms; data protection laws mandate standards for any organization handling personal data; and major clients pass security obligations down through commercial contracts.
As critical operators and public entities align with AI-assisted threat monitoring and intelligence requirements, external suppliers are increasingly required to supply clean system logs, report incidents promptly, and verify internal security controls during procurement processes.
