The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) initiated the emirate's first dedicated health and life sciences delegation to China, visiting Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing from September 21 to 30. The mission includes representatives from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, PureHealth, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and L'IMAD to meet with Chinese government bodies, hospitals, universities, and technology enterprises.
Discussions during the ten-day visit center on four core areas: artificial intelligence, robotics, and medical technology; precision cancer care and advanced diagnostics; drug development and clinical trials; and healthcare regulation alongside traditional medicine. Officials stated an objective to accelerate the transition of laboratory discoveries into clinical applications by pairing China's biotechnology manufacturing scale with UAE genomic datasets, including the Emirati Genome Programme.
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, stated that China and Abu Dhabi share an ambition to translate scientific progress into improved healthcare outcomes by establishing direct pathways between researchers, clinicians, and innovators. In addition to bilateral talks, the delegation extended formal invitations to Chinese life sciences organizations to attend the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, scheduled for October 20 to 22.
