Dubai's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has released updated 2026 guidelines governing the family members foreign residents may sponsor for residence permits in the emirate, Yen.com.gh reported.

Under the outlined framework, foreign residents can sponsor four specific categories of dependants: husbands, children under the age of 25, unmarried daughters of any age, and children with special needs, who are exempt from any age restrictions.

The regulations establish equal sponsorship rights for male and female expatriate residents, allowing women working or residing in Dubai to sponsor their husbands under the same regulatory structure that allows male residents to sponsor wives.

According to the report, a key condition of the permit requires all sponsored family members to reside at the same physical address as the foreign guarantor throughout the validity of the residence arrangement. The GDRFA did not specify a separate effective date beyond the 2026 publication.
