The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) signed a package of multi-billion-dollar fund agreements with Chinese institutional partners during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's state visit to Beijing. All valued agreements represent jointly managed funds, with two vehicles targeting investments in Chinese technology, according to reporting by Oman Observer cited by EnterpriseAM.
Among the transactions, OIA established an OMR 307.6 million ($800 million) joint fund with China's Silk Road Fund, dedicating most capital to Omani projects. OIA also launched an OMR 115.4 million ($300 million) co-investment vehicle with China Merchants Bank based on equal equity contributions, following an earlier 2019 vehicle created by the two entities to acquire Chinese technology.
Additional investment vehicles include a $200 million fund with Templewater, whose innovation fund will direct $60 million into Chinese technology, as well as a $250 million fund with EWP Partners that expands that partnership to $275 million.
Alongside fund creation, the Central Bank of Oman and the People's Bank of China agreed to a bilateral currency swap agreement, though size and tenor were not disclosed. The two central banks and relevant authorities also concluded memoranda covering central bank digital currencies and regulatory coordination across securities and futures markets.
