DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan has outlined growing obstacles across Middle East container trade, pointing to sharp freight rate increases along shipping corridors connecting China with Gulf destinations, according to a report by Transport Topics.

Citing benchmark data from Xeneta, the report noted that spot shipping rates for a 40-foot container from China climbed 214 percent to Jeddah and surged 442 percent to the UAE port of Khor Fakkan.

Narayan stated that while overland road haulage routes from eastern UAE ports are expanding, circumventing primary maritime gateways reduces the operational efficiency of major regional trade hubs such as Jebel Ali. The linked industrial free zones of Jebel Ali handled $190 billion in trade in 2024.

To mitigate future supply chain disruptions along bilateral corridors, Narayan called on governments and institutional investors to fund more redundant and shock-resistant logistics networks.
