Abu Dhabi's Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) announced on Friday that it is monitoring cryptocurrency exchange Binance following a security incident involving unauthorized asset withdrawals. The regulator stated that it is engaging closely with the platform, noting that safeguarding client interests and maintaining market integrity and orderly functioning remain its primary priorities.

According to an update published by Binance, the estimated total impact of the incident stands at approximately $6.3 billion. The platform stated that roughly $3 billion of the affected digital assets had already been frozen on-chain with the assistance of blockchain ecosystem partners.

Binance's preliminary investigation indicated that an intruder may have compromised an engineer's laptop to reach internal systems and execute unauthorized transactions. The exchange stated that it found no evidence showing that wallet private keys had been leaked or compromised.

Following the breach, Binance temporarily halted deposits and withdrawals while running comprehensive security audits. The exchange pledged to reimburse all losses using its emergency reserve fund and corporate assets, adding that it is coordinating with law enforcement authorities and blockchain analytics firms to trace and recover the missing funds.
