UAE Outlines Eight Steps for Managing Workplace Grievances Under Law

The UAE government has detailed an eight-step official procedure for employees challenging workplace penalties through a Grievance Committee. Aggrieved workers must submit a written appeal and supporting documentation within two weeks of penalty notification. The framework defines responsibilities across the aggrieved employee, the Grievance Committee, and the human resources department through final enforcement.

The UAE government has outlined eight official procedural steps that employees and employers must follow when handling workplace grievances, establishing clear responsibilities for each stage of the process, according to a report by Legit.ng. Under the procedure, an aggrieved worker must submit a written appeal to the Grievance Committee within two weeks of receiving notification of any penalty issued by a violations committee.

The submitted appeal must include supporting documentation, which the committee's rapporteur is responsible for receiving and recording. Once the case file is received, the Grievance Committee reviews the file according to the set procedure and reaches a formal decision in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

If the grievance is rejected, the committee notifies the affected worker, the relevant departmental unit, and the human resources department, and HR places a copy of the decision into the employee's personnel file. If the grievance is accepted—either through a complete cancellation or a reduction of the penalty—the employee, the concerned department, and HR are similarly notified, and HR is tasked with implementing the committee's decision.
