Update — October 26, 2026 7:13 AM CST: The United States has reiterated a Level 3 'Reconsider Travel' advisory for Kuwait, citing regional conflict risks and Persian Gulf aviation safety concerns. Travelers using Kuwait International Airport are advised to confirm itineraries directly with airlines, while U.S. government staff require special authorization for domestic travel. The advisory does not order the departure of non-emergency personnel.
Update — October 23, 2026 3:11 AM CST: Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a NOTAM partially reopening airspace to international civilian transit flights. The corridor connects the Bahrain and Baghdad Flight Information Regions with a mandatory minimum altitude of Flight Level 280. Several carriers, including Emirates, continue rerouting flights via Saudi Arabia while conducting risk assessments.
Update — October 20, 2026 10:12 AM CST: The Overseas Security Advisory Council issued an advisory warning of potential flight cancellations and airspace closures affecting Kuwait and the wider region. The notice cites regional hostilities and strikes on infrastructure, urging travelers to monitor flight status directly. Travelers were instructed to check departures via the Kuwait International Airport portal and maintain emergency plans.
Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has clarified that transit flight operations at Kuwait International Airport remain suspended until further notice, according to a report by Gulf News.
DGCA spokesman Abdullah Al Rajhi denied circulating reports indicating that the civil aviation authority had reached an agreement with Jazeera Airways or any other carrier to resume transit services.
Authorities have initiated regulatory action against Jazeera Airways after the carrier made transit bookings available without obtaining official authorization.
The DGCA stated that the suspension of airport transit has been maintained since the outbreak of regional hostilities to safeguard passengers and airport facilities. The authority reiterated that any future decision to lift transit restrictions will only be announced through official government channels.
