Autonomous driving technology developer WeRide announced the launch of a global insurance partnership program designed to facilitate the worldwide scaling of its driverless fleets across China, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
The company established the program with Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, Ltd. and Allianz Insurance Singapore Pte. Ltd. as its inaugural partners. Under the initiative, the partners are co-developing customized coverage across the operational lifecycle of Level 4 autonomous vehicles, encompassing motor liability, commercial general and product liability, as well as cybersecurity and data privacy protections.
According to company statements, Ping An P&C Insurance has tailored locally compliant insurance mechanisms supporting WeRide's commercial robotaxi deployments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai—including ride-hailing services integrated with Uber and TXAI platforms—in addition to services in Beijing and Guangzhou.
WeRide stated that it currently operates roughly 3,600 autonomous vehicles across 13 countries and more than 60 cities, of which over 1,800 are robotaxis. The firm stated that the insurance initiative is intended to support the deployment of tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles globally as operational scale increases.
