The UAE Ministry of Finance announced Ministerial Decision No. 197 of 2026, introducing relaxed compliance standards for the country's upcoming electronic invoicing system ahead of its scheduled implementation in January 2027, according to Gulf News.

Under the new measures, transactions conducted between entities within the same tax group are temporarily exempt from electronic invoicing requirements for a 24-month timeframe concluding in December 2028.

The ministry has also removed the stipulation requiring electronic invoices and credit note data to be stored physically inside the UAE. Businesses are permitted to maintain invoicing records outside the country provided they adhere to the UAE Tax Procedures Law.

The regulatory amendments retroactively took effect on October 1, 2026, aimed at easing technical and operational requirements across the commercial sector.
