Dubai-based lender Mashreq has committed $125 million to strengthen its operations in Hong Kong, according to a report by Nikkei Asia. The capital injection is designed to support the bank's expansion in the territory, positioning it as an intermediary for increasing commercial and financial flows between the United Arab Emirates and China.

The lender aims to use its expanded Hong Kong base to provide trade finance, cross-border corporate banking, and wealth management services to clients with commercial interests spanning the Gulf and Greater China. Hong Kong serves as a strategic gateway for Gulf institutions seeking broader access to mainland Chinese markets.

The move comes amid wider efforts by Gulf-based financial institutions and sovereign wealth funds to deepen ties with Asian economies and diversify beyond traditional Western financial corridors.
