The United Arab Emirates is hoping for a diplomatic breakthrough in indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States while remaining prepared for worst-case regional outcomes, Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, said on Sunday at a conference in Manama, Bahrain, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
Gargash stated that another round of military escalation is not in the interest of the region, emphasizing that while Abu Dhabi supports a diplomatic resolution, it has demonstrated that it is braced for the worst.
The diplomatic push follows a visit by a Qatari negotiating delegation to Tehran, after which Iranian envoys were dispatched to Doha to continue consultations with Gulf states as part of indirect discussions with Washington aimed at ending the conflict.
Speaking at the same conference in Manama, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Donald Blome said that Washington's negotiation channels remain open and active, while cautioning that the United States is also prepared to take alternative measures to ensure regional stability and global economic security.
