UAE-Donated Date Palms Yield Notable Harvest Across Inland Bases in China

Experimental date palm bases in Hainan, Yunnan, and Sichuan provinces completed their harvest season, marking the first notable yields from UAE-donated palms in China's inland areas. Fifty-two palms in Yunnan and 125 in Sichuan produced fruit for the first time, while eight varieties bore fruit again in Hainan. The initiative is part of the UAE's pledge to donate 100,000 seedlings to strengthen bilateral food security cooperation.

The date palm harvest season has concluded across experimental bases in China's Hainan, Yunnan, and Sichuan provinces, according to the Emirates News Agency. This marks the first time that date palms donated by the United Arab Emirates produced fruit in notable quantities within China's inland regions.

Eight varieties of date palms yielded fruit again at the Wenchang base in Hainan. Additionally, 52 palms in Yuanjiang County of Yunnan Province and 125 palms in Panzhihua City of Sichuan Province produced fruit for the first time.

The project stems from an initiative under which the UAE pledged to donate 100,000 date palm seedlings to enhance agricultural cooperation and support food security with China. Following initial deliveries of 1,500 and 23,500 seedlings, which registered a 93 percent survival rate, cultivation has expanded into dry-hot valley regions across China.
