Travelers departing Dubai and the wider UAE can now obtain Value Added Tax refunds on retail shopping within 24 hours under a newly launched digital framework. The initiative covers eligible retail purchases with a maximum VAT refund threshold of Dh35,000, according to Time Out Dubai.

The system, jointly introduced by the Federal Tax Authority and Planet Tax Free, replaces the previous paperwork-heavy refund mechanism. Under the updated process, standard turnaround times have been reduced from nine days to one business day.

To use the service, passengers must register in advance through the Planet mobile application by submitting passport and credit card details alongside a biometric facial scan. Automated artificial intelligence systems validate transactions at airport service points, allowing most claims to clear digitally without requiring physical customs counter inspections.

UAE-Led Global Crackdown Flags $39B in Fraud and Nets 960 Arrests
