Artificial intelligence adoption among UAE businesses climbed to 72 percent from 53 percent a year earlier, representing a 36 percent annual growth rate, according to the 'Unlocking the UAE's AI Potential 2026' report. The study was conducted by research firm Strand Partners in collaboration with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and Amazon Web Services (AWS). It also found that 85 percent of AI adopters reported the technology accelerated the pace of digital transformation across their organisations.
The findings coincide with AWS's long-term investment plan of up to AED 20.1 billion ($5.47 billion) in the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region through 2037. According to AWS projections, this capital outlay is estimated to contribute AED 41 billion ($11.16 billion) to the UAE's gross domestic product.
To address sovereign data and compliance needs, AWS and e& enterprise launched the AWS UAE Sovereign Launchpad with endorsement from the UAE Cybersecurity Council. AWS is also supporting a separate $1 billion investment with e& to build sovereign cloud and AI capabilities. The report noted that UAE businesses, including Property Finder, Virgin Mobile UAE, The ENTERTAINER, and Careem, are deploying AWS cloud and generative AI systems.
On skills development, AWS is running the AI Nation – Afaaq Program to provide free training to 30,000 people across the UAE, alongside partnerships with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence and the Qudwatech mentorship initiative for Emirati women. The report highlighted four priorities for sustaining momentum: secure cloud infrastructure, innovation-friendly regulation, skills development, and enhanced financing for AI startups and SMEs.
