Foreign direct investment into Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries reached a ten-year peak of $99 billion in 2025, marking an 18% increase, according to the 2026 GCC Investment Report released by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The United Arab Emirates was the primary destination within the region, attracting approximately $48 billion in inflows.
UNCTAD highlighted the role of the UAE and GCC economies as an investment bridge, channeling Asian production networks and Chinese capital into broader global markets.
In Beijing, Chinese and UAE government delegations met on October 22, 2026, to align China's 15th Five-Year Plan with the 'We the UAE 2031' initiative. The meeting followed record bilateral non-oil trade of $110 billion recorded between the two nations in 2025.
Capital flows also expanded eastward, with Gulf sovereign wealth funds deploying $14.2 billion into China and Hong Kong during the first nine months of 2026, driven predominantly by UAE and Saudi Arabian funds.
