Sharjah Prioritises Ports and Rail Logistics Amid Shifting Global Trade Routes

Sharjah is positioning ports and logistics at the forefront of its investment strategy as geopolitical tensions reshape global trade routes. Speaking at the ninth Sharjah Investment Forum, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority CEO Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer highlighted Khorfakkan Port and the UAE's rail network as central to this push. Al Qaseer emphasised that the emirate complements rather than competes with Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The Emirate of Sharjah is placing ports and logistics at the center of its investment pitch as geopolitical developments reshape global supply chains, Gulf News reported. Speaking at the ninth Sharjah Investment Forum, H.E. Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, stated that logistics has taken on increased importance within the current environment.

Al Qaseer highlighted Khorfakkan Port and the near-complete rail network connecting the emirates as key components of this strategy. Rail operators participated in this year's forum programme to discuss port connectivity and trade route diversification. Al Qaseer credited the UAE's leadership, infrastructure, and economic diversity with enabling the country to absorb external shocks.

While declining to disclose specific investment figures, Al Qaseer noted that more than 7,000 participants have attended across the forum's nine editions. He described the event as a commercial platform where startups seek funding and larger enterprises conclude agreements.

Addressing relations with neighbouring emirates, Al Qaseer rejected the concept of rivalry with Dubai and Abu Dhabi, stating that the emirates complement rather than compete with one another. He noted that Sharjah builds on its own strengths in industry and cultural tourism, adding that the government remains prepared to adapt regulations whenever necessary.
