Disclosures reported on September 28, 2026, revealed that the Saudi Central Bank officially concluded its trial engagement with the mBridge cross-border digital currency platform on May 13, 2025. The pilot was carried out in a test environment without live settlement of transactions.

mBridge is operated jointly by the central banks of China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.

Between mid-2024 and late 2025, the multi-CBDC platform processed 4,868 transactions with an aggregate value of $67 billion. Transaction volume remained heavily concentrated in China's digital currency, with the digital yuan representing roughly 96% of the total settlement value.
