Dubai-based real asset investment firm ROX Capital Group has announced the launch of the ROX Gulf Energy Storage Platform. The platform is designed to identify, develop, and deploy energy storage technologies for utility-scale and commercial projects across the UAE and Oman, while evaluating potential opportunities for regional assembly and manufacturing.
According to the firm, the platform will assess multiple battery and storage technologies, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP), sodium-ion, and vanadium redox flow batteries. It will also evaluate long-duration energy storage systems, such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) batteries, gravity-based storage, compressed-air energy storage, and thermal storage.
ROX stated that it intends to establish regional partnerships with technology leaders in each category. Target partners must hold proprietary intellectual property, bankable systems, proven track records in utility-scale deployments, and established manufacturing capabilities to provide long-term warranties and technical support. ROX and its partners plan to jointly bid on upcoming energy storage tenders in the Gulf.
Robin Antony, Founder of ROX Capital Group, noted that while the Gulf is developing major solar projects, maintaining clean power after sunset and meeting high summer cooling demand requires a mix of storage solutions. The platform is also linked to ROX's project to retrofit an existing UAE high-rise into a net-zero skyscraper incorporating building-integrated energy storage.
