Regional Tensions Fail to Slow Asset Management Growth in UAE Financial Hubs

Asset management and fund setup activity across DIFC and ADGM has rebounded strongly following the summer months despite regional tensions. According to an analysis published in Funds Global MENA by law firm Simmons & Simmons, proximity to sovereign wealth funds and engaged regulators continue to draw international asset managers. The influx spans hedge fund startups, European relocations, and new regulated fund launches.

Doubts over whether regional tensions would trigger a long-term slowdown in the Middle East asset management sector have quickly cleared as Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) resume high levels of activity, according to an analysis by Thomas Pointer, partner at law firm Simmons & Simmons, published by Funds Global MENA.

The report states that market momentum resumed following the seasonal summer slowdown, recovering from uncertainty experienced earlier in the year. Expansion is occurring across multiple fund segments, including hedge fund startups, spin-outs from multi-managers, organic local businesses, and investment managers relocating from Europe and other global markets.

Regional sovereign wealth funds also continue to actively deploy capital to asset managers globally. Pointer reported that legal and advisory teams remain actively engaged across private fund establishments, local regulated funds, and institutional asset management projects throughout the UAE.

The analysis highlighted that beyond proximity to sovereign funds and family offices, proactive and consultative regulators in the UAE are key drivers of sustained industry growth. The country's strategic position bridging Eastern and Western trading routes, combined with modern commercial infrastructure and favourable tax conditions, continues to attract global financial firms.
