China Daily reported that the United States is evaluating follow-up military strategies regarding Iran following a reported Camp David meeting, as Iran enforces a shipping blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported that seven oil tankers were targeted in the waterway over five days, while Yemen's Houthi group claimed missile and drone attacks on Saudi Aramco oil facilities in Riyadh and Khurais.
Brent crude prices rose over 4% to $107.95 per barrel following an attack on Iran's South Pars gas infrastructure and subsequent retaliatory threats against Gulf energy sites. Iranian media confirmed damage at the Asaluyeh refinery, while benchmark crude remained above $100 for four consecutive sessions. Meanwhile, Iraqi pipeline exports partially resumed amid ongoing regional output disruptions and Strait of Hormuz transit constraints.
The U.S. Treasury Department has expanded Iran sanctions to encompass the automotive and railway sectors. The measures designate 30 individuals and entities, including trading firms based in China, the UAE, and Indonesia. Sanctioned targets face asset freezes within the United States and financial transaction bans.
Yemen's Houthi rebels have expanded territorial control along the Red Sea coast using weapons assembled with Iranian training and imported commercial parts from China, according to media reports cited by Chosunbiz. The military expansion has impacted critical maritime transit routes, contributing to volatility in global oil prices. Intercepted cargo shipments inspected in July reportedly contained commercial dual-use components adaptable for missile and drone manufacturing.
