UAE Expat Survey Reveals Widespread Misconceptions Over Default Inheritance Laws
A YouGov survey of 1,014 UAE expatriates revealed that 56 per cent believe their assets would automatically pass to their spouse upon death, contrary to UAE succession rules. Under default civil inheritance rules for non-Muslim expats, 50 per cent of an estate goes to the surviving spouse while the remaining 50 per cent is split among children. Legal experts warn that 49 per cent of expatriates still lack a registered will, creating severe administrative hurdles for families.
