China Asset Management (Hong Kong) and Qatar-based Lesha Bank entered into an agreement on October 14 to introduce Qatar's first Sharia-compliant China equity fund, according to the South China Morning Post.

The fund, which could potentially scale up to $1 billion, is designed to offer high-net-worth investors across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states direct investment exposure to equities in mainland China and Hong Kong.

Executives from the entities pointed to China's growing artificial intelligence and biotechnology sectors as primary diversification opportunities for Gulf investors. The launch follows recent diplomatic visits and financial roadshows aimed at linking capital markets between Hong Kong and the Gulf region.
