An analytical paper published by the Abu Dhabi-based think tank Future Center for Advanced Research and Studies examines whether the expanded BRICS group can serve as a strategic lever for China amid intensifying international competition in artificial intelligence.
The analysis follows proposals presented by Chinese leadership to BRICS members aiming to deepen multilateral technological cooperation. These proposals include establishing an open-source AI community dedicated to BRICS economies, supporting the joint development and deployment of large language models (LLMs), and launching a shared cloud platform for a digital ecosystem.
According to the analysis, China's outreach also encompasses digital skills development, intelligent manufacturing alignment, and standard-setting across emerging markets. For member countries, including the United Arab Emirates, these initiatives offer expanded access to advanced computational resources and collaborative research, while requiring nations to balance technology adoption with their own digital sovereignty and global partnerships.
