Dubai Police introduced the Yangwang U8 SUV into its luxury tourist patrol fleet on October 21, 2026, during the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2026) at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The vehicle was added in collaboration with Al-Futtaim Automotive Group, the exclusive distributor of Yangwang vehicles in the United Arab Emirates.
Yangwang is the luxury brand of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD. The U8 is an extended-range electric SUV equipped with four electric motors paired with a petrol engine operating as a generator. According to Dubai Police specifications, the vehicle delivers 1,197 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, while Yangwang UAE lists 1,180 hp for the commercial Arabian Edition.
The SUV includes an emergency water-flotation function designed for flash floods and evacuation scenarios, allowing the vehicle to navigate on water at speeds up to 3 km/h for a maximum of 30 minutes before requiring a technical service inspection. The vehicle can also perform a 360-degree rotation on the spot.
Brigadier Saeed Al Hajri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, indicated the SUV will operate at key visitor destinations including Burj Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, and Jumeirah Beach Residence. Beyond security presence, the patrol serves as a public contact point for residents and tourists while advancing the force's adoption of electric vehicles.
The commercial retail price for the Yangwang U8 Arabian Edition in the UAE is 659,900 dirhams (approximately 180,000 U.S. dollars), though Dubai Police did not disclose the specific cost of its acquired unit. The deployment follows recent fleet additions, including a hybrid Lamborghini Temerario and a Mansory-customized Ferrari 812 Superfast.
