Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's international arm, DEWA International, has signed a memorandum of understanding with China's Shanghai Electric to evaluate and pursue energy and water projects globally. The agreement was signed by Waleed bin Salman, vice chairman of DEWA International, and Shen Bing, president of Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group.
The framework covers potential collaboration in solar and wind energy, battery storage, desalination, green hydrogen, conventional power generation, power transmission and distribution, green ammonia, concentrated solar power, and equipment supply for the oil and gas sector. It also establishes a mechanism for the two entities to participate in international tenders.
DEWA established its international subsidiary in June to deploy Dubai's utility and clean energy expertise abroad. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive of DEWA and chairman of DEWA International, stated that the partnership aims to leverage Dubai's utility expertise alongside the global capabilities of its partners.
The two firms previously collaborated on the Dh15.78 billion fourth phase of Dubai's Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The newly signed agreement remains exploratory, with no specific overseas projects, capital commitments, or project timelines announced.
