Chinese Commercial Ships Granted Transit Exemptions in Strait of Hormuz

An Iranian parliamentary official confirmed that commercial vessels from China, India, Iraq, and Qatar have received exemptions from transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. The policy allows Chinese cargo ships and energy tankers to transit the Gulf route without tolls or inspections. Analysts noted the decision helps protect Gulf crude oil exports to China.

Commercial vessels from China, India, Iraq, and Qatar have been granted exemptions from transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Ahmad Hayat-Moghaddam, vice-chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

The policy enables Chinese cargo vessels and energy tankers to transit the Gulf maritime route freely without incurring transit tolls or undergoing inspections, the South China Morning Post reported.

Trade and energy analysts cited in the report stated that the measure safeguards crude oil exports from the Gulf to China, which remains the region's largest customer and a major diplomatic partner.

The decision directly impacts maritime logistics and supply-chain continuity across the Gulf amid broader security tensions influencing shipping operators.
