Top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi said on Wednesday that Beijing will play a "constructive" role in realizing a "comprehensive" ceasefire in the Middle East and resuming long-stalled negotiations between rival parties, Anadolu Agency reported citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed on social media platform X that Wang delivered the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, special envoy of the President of the United Arab Emirates to China.
Wang stated that Beijing will uphold the initiatives and propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping dedicated to peace and stability. He noted that China aims to advance political settlements, facilitate the early resumption of peace negotiations, and support lasting peace across the Middle East.
Addressing the regional situation, Wang observed that the Middle East is undergoing profound changes, with dragging multi-level conflicts whose spillover effects continue to weigh on regional security and development. He noted that the path to peace is not smooth and ending conflicts requires pooling collective efforts.
Wang added that China has consistently acted as a builder of peace, a promoter of stability, and a contributor to development in the Middle East, expressing confidence that a positive future can be realized if parties maintain resolve for peace.
