China has launched a direct maritime cargo route linking the Port of Taicang in eastern Jiangsu province directly to Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia.
Xu Daopeng, chairman of the operating company, stated that the dedicated route eliminates intermediate port transfers, reducing shipping transit times by two to three weeks. The service features fixed sailing schedules aimed at lowering logistics costs and boosting transport efficiency between China and the Middle East.
Xu also noted that the operating company plans to monitor market demand, increase sailing frequency when needed, enhance shipping capacity, and upgrade comprehensive logistics services.
According to official data from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bilateral trade between China and Saudi Arabia reached approximately $108.2 billion in 2025 and $24.15 billion in the first quarter of the year. China imported about 80.76 million tons of Saudi crude oil in 2025 and 17.9 million tons in the first quarter of the year.
