Chinese automaker Chery announced plans to introduce its first autonomous robotaxi operations in the United Arab Emirates in 2027. The initiative is part of an international expansion strategy focused on increasing manufacturing footprints and establishing technology partnerships abroad.
Speaking at an event at Chery's headquarters in Wuhu, Executive Vice President Zhang Guibing outlined targets for international manufacturing. Chery projects that vehicles built outside China will account for over 50 percent of its export volume by the end of 2026, up from approximately 48 percent. The company aims to expand that share to 60 percent by 2027 and 70 percent by 2030.
Zhang stated that the automaker is pursuing local overseas production to generate employment opportunities and deepen cooperation with international technology providers. Chery also sells vehicles under the Omoda and Jaecoo brands.
Alongside the UAE autonomous driving rollout, the automaker plans to develop fast-charging and energy storage stations across international markets beginning in 2027, including locations in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Thailand.
