Chinese automaker BYD revealed the official name of its upcoming Yangwang flagship electric sedan on October 27, days after confirming plans to host its unveiling in the United Arab Emirates, according to EVXL. The vehicle, previously developed under the internal code Project HU, will carry the name Altior in international markets and Dingyao in China.
According to Yangwang sales division general manager Hu Xiaoqing, the Altior name originates from the Latin term for 'higher', while the Chinese moniker Dingyao combines a reference to an ancient bronze vessel that inspires the front styling with a character signifying brilliance. BYD confirmed the UAE unveiling on October 21 but has yet to disclose the official venue, final retail pricing, or delivery schedules.
Visual teasers released by BYD show a silhouette featuring rear-hinged coach doors, a long bonnet, large chrome-finished wheels, and a roof-mounted lidar sensor for driver-assistance technology. Third-party estimates reported by CarNewsChina cite an estimated length of 5,500 millimetres (217 inches) and a wheelbase of 3,350 millimetres (132 inches).
Media estimates place the potential price of the flagship sedan at roughly $300,000 (more than 2 million yuan), compared to an entry price of about $98,600 (658,000 yuan) for the brand's U7 sedan in China. However, EVXL noted that BYD has not confirmed official powertrain data, battery architecture, or pricing for the vehicle ahead of the UAE debut.
