China, the world's largest crude importer, increased foreign purchases to 8.93 million barrels per day in August 2026. This figure represents a 6.2 percent increase compared to July volumes.
Tanker tracking data from Kpler revealed a partial recovery in maritime energy flows linking the Gulf to Chinese refining terminals, despite ongoing transit friction near the Strait of Hormuz. However, total Asian crude import volumes remain 13 percent lower than baseline capacities recorded prior to recent regional tensions.
Chinese state energy firms are continuing to work closely with Gulf national oil companies to stabilize scheduled term supplies.
