Ant International and HSBC Expand Tokenised Treasury Management to Middle East

Ant International and HSBC have expanded their collaboration to provide real-time treasury management services across the Middle East using HSBC's Tokenised Deposit Service. The companies completed pilot transactions connecting the UAE and Hong Kong for domestic dirham and cross-border US dollar transfers. Ant International is HSBC's first corporate client in the Middle East to utilise the tokenised deposit infrastructure.

Ant International announced an expanded partnership with HSBC to introduce real-time treasury management capabilities across the Middle East. Through the initiative, Ant International leverages HSBC's Tokenised Deposit Service (TDS), making it HSBC's first client in the Middle East to deploy the infrastructure.

As part of the rollout, the two organisations completed pilot transactions across two payment corridors linking the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong. The tests included intra-UAE real-time transfers denominated in UAE dirhams as well as cross-border US dollar-denominated tokenised deposit payments initiated from the UAE to international markets, including Hong Kong and Singapore.

The transactions were initiated via WhaleRTP, Ant International's proprietary blockchain-based treasury management platform, and settled in real time through HSBC's TDS under a jointly developed workflow. Ant International stated that WhaleRTP is currently supported by more than 20 global banks and enables real-time transfers across more than 17 currencies, including the US dollar, Hong Kong dollar, and UAE dirham.

HSBC's TDS is currently operational across six markets: the UAE, Hong Kong, Singapore, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Ant International noted that the Middle East expansion will support its regional operations, including services under Alipay+, Antom, and WorldFirst, with medium-term plans to explore establishing a global treasury hub in the region.
