The National reported that Abu Dhabi's Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council convened to assess progress toward establishing the emirate as a global leader in AI technology. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, National Security Adviser, and Chairman of the council, chaired the meeting in the presence of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Vice Chairman of the council.
During the session, the council reviewed developments across several core priorities, including the UAE-US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi, advances in AI research, open AI models, and the cultivation of specialised talent. Members also examined progress on the Abu Dhabi government's drive to become the world's first fully AI-native administration by 2027.
Sheikh Tahnoon stated that Abu Dhabi's ambitions extend beyond adopting AI technology to developing underlying infrastructure and shaping an economy built around it. He emphasized the necessity of directing capital, scientific research, and international partnerships toward establishing a lasting technological base to foster new industries and integrate AI into core government operations.
The council functions as Abu Dhabi's supreme authority for AI and advanced technology strategies, investments, and research programs. The report also noted that following a July agreement between the UAE and the US, a bilateral task force named Task Force Talon Synapse—comprising approximately 20 Emirati and US specialists in AI, cybersecurity, and data—is being established in Abu Dhabi to accelerate military AI applications.
