Chinese industrial and engineering contractors have expanded their involvement in major clean energy projects across the UAE, according to details highlighted at ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi.
In Abu Dhabi, the 1.5-gigawatt PV3 Al Ajban solar project spanning 20 square kilometres is approaching grid commissioning under an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract led by PowerChina's Huadong Engineering Corporation. The Al Ajban plant is projected to generate 4.4 billion kilowatt-hours annually, sufficient to power 160,000 households and offset 2.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
PowerChina is also constructing an integrated facility in Abu Dhabi that incorporates 2.1 gigawatts of photovoltaic capacity paired with a 7.75-gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system.
Separately, DEWA International and Shanghai Electric have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore global energy, water, and infrastructure investments. The agreement spans renewables, battery storage, desalination, green hydrogen and ammonia, alongside power generation and oil and gas services.
