DP World CEO Warns Hormuz Rerouting and Rate Surges Impact China-Gulf Corridors

DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan outlined rising challenges in Middle East container shipping, citing substantial rate increases on China-Gulf corridors. Data from Xeneta showed spot rates for a 40-foot container surged 214 percent to Jeddah and 442 percent to Khor Fakkan. Narayan noted that rerouting away from primary maritime gateways lowers efficiency for major hubs like Jebel Ali.

DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan detailed growing challenges across Middle East container trade, noting sharp rate shifts on shipping corridors connecting China and the Gulf, according to Transport Topics.

Citing data from Xeneta, the report highlighted that spot shipping rates for a 40-foot container from China to the Gulf spiked significantly, climbing 214 percent to Jeddah and 442 percent to the UAE's Khor Fakkan port.

Narayan stated that while road haulage routes originating from eastern UAE ports are expanding, avoiding key maritime gateways reduces the efficiency of scaled trade hubs such as Jebel Ali. In 2024, Jebel Ali's linked industrial free zones registered trade valued at $190 billion.

To safeguard global supply flows against future disruptions, Narayan called on governments and institutional investors to fund more shock-resistant, redundant logistics networks.
